Stephen Harris has been engaged in forensic accountancy since 1979. Quite simply, this is the application of accountancy skills and knowledge to assist in the resolution of legal disputes.
Stephen Harris & Co was established in 1994. Stephen and his colleague Kath Atherton are chartered accountants with considerable experience in this area. They have been involved in a large number of cases. These have included many of high value which have been widely reported in the media and professional journals.
A large part of our work arises from claims for damages following personal injury or fatal accident, or losses from business interruption and similar incidents. For further details see "Areas of Work". Instructions are received either from those advising the claimant or those advising the defendant, or jointly.
Most instructions are from solicitors in the United Kingdom. However, with the continued expansion in international travel, an increasing proportion our work involves incidents in foreign jurisdictions. We have been able to assist lawyers overseas with injured clients who are UK residents.
Much of the work is of an advisory nature, reporting to those who instruct us. However, Stephen Harris acts also as an independent expert and has given evidence in Court on seven occasions since 1989.
