Areas Of Work

Stephen Harris has since 1979 provided assistance to lawyers in quantifying and/or reporting on claims for damages in the following areas:-

  • Business interruption
  • Clinical accident
  • Product liability
  • Deceit
  • Urgent work for injunctions
  • Personal injury
  • Professional negligence
  • Alleged theft & false accounting
  • Fidelity
  • Proceeds of Crime Act investigations
  • Breach of contract
  • Fatal accident
  • Pension losses
  • Licensing law
  • Defamation
  • Compulsory purchase orders

Depending upon the instructions given, we undertake investigations and prepare reports on the losses claimed, or assist in the quantification of the losses. Our reports may be addressed to the Court where proceedings have commenced. Alternatively, they may be addressed to those instructing us where our work is of an advisory nature.

With increasing frequency we are being asked to prepare (or to assist with certain aspects of) formal Schedules of Loss. These are supplemented by detailed supporting schedules where required, explaining the sources of information and providing an explanation of the assumptions made.

Often, we are instructed to attend meetings with accountants instructed by the other party to the litigation and to prepare joint statements. These highlight areas of agreement and disagreement, with a view to narrowing the issues and to assist the parties and, ultimately, the Court.

We are able to bring to bear our particular skills in:-

  • Obtaining the necessary information, from the files of other accountants, business records and elsewhere.
  • Identifying similarities to other cases in which we have been involved and making use of industry information, etc.
  • Understanding the legal framework in which claims are made.
